LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The Boy Scouts of America is hosting a special flag retirement ceremony, honoring the American flag in a meaningful way.

Aidan, Wyatt, Javier and Jesus from the Boy Scouts of America shared details about the event. As part of his Eagle Scout project, Wyatt said the ceremony will include the proper disposal of flags made of cotton and polyester.

The ceremony will feature the retirement of 75 flags collected from drop boxes around the city with the support of the Laredo community. A US flag raising ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 24, at 10 a.m. at Camp Huisache, located on Henry Cuellar Road. This event is sponsored by the South Texas Council, Aztec County, Troop 201 United Day School Charter Organization and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9194.

A part of the ROTC is planned to participate in the ceremony to serve as an honor guard, and efforts are also being made to find a child to sing the national anthem.

The public is invited to attend this important ceremony, which takes place on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. For more information, please contact the Troop 201 Scoutmaster at 956-740-9902.
