La Presa waterworks project moving forward – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A county project that aims to provide potable water for people living in the Mangana Hein La Presa community is one step closer to becoming a reality.

At a Commissioners Court meeting on Monday, October 28, it was confirmed that the money needed to fund the entire project has been allocated.

For 40 years, people living in the area will have to carry water from elsewhere to their homes.

Five years ago, a water treatment plant was installed in the area.

Precinct One Commissioner Jesse Gonzalez explained how COVID-19 is playing a role in the project.

Gonzalez mentioned, “Everyone was suffering, I lost some family members. Everyone was affected by it. They are still influencing. We had ARPA funds that came out of the COVID-19 situation. These are federal dollars. The county received about $53 million. So now we can do all these projects that were unavailable from the county because of funding issues. $10M $10M, probably going to be closer to $13M, but a waterline is needed in these parts.

The community can expect to have water pipes in their area by 2026.
