The unstoppable Good Gilbert team are heading west in November, adding a fourth venture to their line-up of popular suburban bars and restaurants.
Leading the project are industry experts Wilson and Isabel Shawer, who first opened your friendly neighborhood bar, Good Gilbert, in 2020. After spending years among some of Europe’s finest establishments, the couple fell in love with suburban city life and opened the vintage bar on Goodwood Road.
The bar quickly grew from a small suburban spot into a thriving 120-seat wine bar and restaurant. Good Gilbert has received several awards, including Australia’s Best Wine Bar in the Gourmet Traveler Restaurant Awards 2023. Along the way, through the crew’s love of good food and great drinks, Good Gilbert has expanded far beyond the original plan.
Earlier this year, the team opened Good Burger, a classic American diner turned chic neighborhood bar. Under the eye of Executive Chef Ashley Peek, Good Burger is a reimagined burger joint offering elevated comfort food with a modern twist.
Wilson and Isabel joined forces with Mel Holm, Scott Fox and Steven Tzanakis to open casual restaurant Asha in August. Once again located in Goodwood, Asha is a blend of contemporary Australian flavors with a Middle Eastern influence.
These places have become favorites for those in the southern suburbs, but now the team have set their sights west as they transform the old Burgertec on Henley Beach Road into a new venue, Gilbert’s Wine Bar & Grill.
We don’t know much about the new location yet, but we’re expecting fantastic furnishings, an impressive drink list and a charcoal grill. Gilbert’s Wine Bar & Grill will be a continuation of everything brought to us by the Good Gilbert family, and from what we’ve seen so far, they’re sure to impress with innovative flavors and a stunning interior.
Gilbert’s Wine Bar & Grill is set to open later this year, to keep up with all things Good Gilbert, check out their social media pages.
