IRVINE, Calif. — A 10-year-old boy who was reportedly bitten by a coyote last week while riding his bike to school in Irvine has tested negative for coyote DNA, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife said in Thursday.
“Coyote DNA was not found on the clothing,” Fish and Wildlife spokesman Tim Daley told The Orange County Register. “Dog DNA was found.”
According to police, the boy was riding his bicycle to Portola Springs Elementary School and was near the Pathway when he stopped to take off his jacket and felt something on his lower leg, the Irvine Police Department said.
According to police, the boy felt something on his lower leg and realized he had been bitten.
While the child said he saw a coyote running from his direction, police said Department of Fish and Wildlife officials were unable to locate a coyote in the area.
