UISD offers students the opportunity to study abroad in Spain – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Have you ever dreamed of studying abroad? If you’re a UISD student, you might get the chance to do it a little earlier than expected! The district’s Melissa Ramirez provided more details about UISD’s study abroad program.

This new initiative is aimed at Year 11 students, offering them the opportunity to study at the University of Salamanca in Spain. The program will run for two weeks during the summer, allowing students to earn half credit.

An online parent-teacher conference is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Ramirez emphasized the importance of this experience, saying students will gain a global understanding and interact with peers from around the world. She mentioned that during her discussions with university officials, it was noted that 17 other countries are participating in this program. A total of 16 students are expected to embark on this trip, with four students selected from each high school.

The study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain is scheduled for June 14-29, 2025 and will include courses in Spanish language, culture, and speech. The total cost of the program is $4,000, which includes tuition, room and board, flights, and excursions.
