It’s cold and flu season and Durham Region Health is now offering flu and COVID-19 vaccines to people of all ages.
Durham Region Health Department (DRHD) is encouraging residents to protect themselves by getting an annual flu shot and the updated COVID-19 KP.2 vaccine, which they say targets the circulating variants.
“Influenza and COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be very effective in reducing the risk of contracting these respiratory viruses and preventing severe illness and complications, including hospitalization and death,” the DRHD said in a released statement. “It is safe to give flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time. Both vaccines are free and recommended for those six months and older.’
DRHD adds that those six months and older who already have a previous COVID-19 vaccine are encouraged to get the updated vaccine if it has been six months since your last vaccination.
You can get both flu and COVID-19 vaccines at your local health care provider and participating pharmacies.

Parents of children six months to two years of age who do not have access to a health care provider and who would like their child to receive a flu shot are encouraged to call the Durham Health Connection Line at 905-668-2020 or 1-800-841-2729.
Appointments to the COVID-19 vaccine clinic are available through the health department for children six months to four years of age who cannot be vaccinated at local pharmacies or through a health care provider.
