20 Years of First Fridays: Here’s What’s Happening on the Art Trail in September – AOL

Friday marks a milestone for a Lubbock institution. The First Friday Art Trail turns 20 years old and will celebrate its anniversary with the September Friday Night Trail.

The 240th First Friday Art Walk takes place from approximately 6 to 9 p.m. this Friday, September 6, in downtown Lubbock, with a wide variety of exhibits, performances and more in the Arts District and beyond. The event, which typically draws thousands of people to downtown Lubbock each month, is hosted by the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts, along with partners Charles Adams Studio Project, the Buddy Holly Center and various downtown businesses and galleries.

LHUCA will feature several artists in its galleries, including exhibitions by Abby Ogle, Julie Speed, Melissa Dorn, and Melissa Monot. Just outside the galleries on the outdoor stage, FFAT attendees can watch performances by the Lubbock Area Square and Round Dance Federation at 6:00 p.m. and local band Indego at 7:30 p.m.

Charles Adams Gallery will present “DA !!BIG¡¡ NADA,” a solo exhibition by artist Josué del Fresco. At CASP’s 5&J Gallery, viewers can enjoy “UFO Over Lubbock,” featuring printmakers from across the United States.

By riding the free trolley, visitors can head to the Buddy Holly Center and see “Illuminance 2024,” a juried exhibit featuring photographs from across the U.S. focused on the theme of “Life in Motion.” The center will also host activities to mark the birthday of its late namesake.

Numerous other exhibits and activities are offered at CASP Studios, Ballet Lubbock, Chez Sami, Nashville Cafe, and Two Docs Brewing Co. The full range is available at lhuca.org/ffat.
