Check out this live recording in the studio of Renault by Hannah Connolly. The song is taken from Connolly’s latest album “shadow boxing”which is now available on white marble and clear vinyl here.
Along with Connolly, a host of talented musicians recorded the song at Idyllwild Music Recorders in California: Jordan Ruiz, Ben Greenberg, Dave Pelusi, Ronan Delisle and Levi Matulis. Together, they add subtle layers that elevate the song. Gentle percussion sways while pedal steel is a haunting voice joining Connolly’s own clean vocals. She sings beautifully, her humble style draws us in and engages us with the sensitive romance of the lyrical narrative. Her poetic words reveal the challenges and complexities of long-distance love – it is full of desire and hope.
The recording session was shot by Ryan Neal Cordwell, who captures the intimacy of the song and Hannah’s performance. Connolly says of the video: “Since we recorded ‘Shadowboxing’ during the pandemic, this was one of the first times we were able to perform ‘Reno’ live outside of the recording process. I feel lucky that we were able to capture this video when it was so raw. It’s special to look back and relive the moment when I was able to fully immerse myself in the song with the band for the first time.” Co-written with Jordan Ruiz, the song is brilliantly crafted and a fine example of the melodic folk of “shadow boxing”. Enjoy yourself.
