Derek Diamond was the lone bright spot among Pittsburgh Pirates prospects for the Scottsdale Scorpions in their 5-2 loss to the Surprising Saguaros on Saturday.
The right-hander got the ball in the fifth inning from the bullpen and delivered a perfect pitch that included a pair of strikeouts.
It was a solid performance in the Arizona Fall League for Diamond, who owns a 3.68 ERA through his first four appearances. In 7.1 innings, he has given up six hits, walked one and struck out 10 batters.
Giovanni Planchart served as Scottsdale’s catcher and went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Kerwin Pichardo took the hot corner and went hitless over three at-bats.
The Scorpions (5-11) are off Sunday but will be back in action against the Salt River Rafters (8-8) on Monday night.
