The Sears Recharge Project begins an environmental review of 236 N. Central Ave. In Glendale – Urbanize National

The city of Glendale has initiated an environmental review for a proposed project that will replace closed Sears with housing and public park.

The former Sears-which occupies addresses, including 236 N. Central Avenue and 212 W. California Avenue-e three-store Merlone Geier Partners properties suggested the construction of a pair of eight floor buildings, including approximately 4.5 acres of land. The project that the city’s presentations have indicated also includes Trammell Crow Residential will include:

• 666 studio apartments, one, two and three bedrooms;
• 16 living/work units;
• commercial space on the ground floor; and
• Parking for 930 vehicles in one level above and two underground levels.

Approximately 15 percent of new apartments will have limited homes in affordable cases. Pre -presentation showed that the set will be 69 units reserved for very low -income households.

The Sears site also includes a property north of 201 W. California Avenue, which is intended for conversion into a new public park.

AC Martin It designs the mixed complex, which was presented in 2022 by the Glendale Municipal Council as a couple of modern podium buildings, including sites, yards, pools and pasture decks. The park to the north was shown as a regular grass line on the grass by sitting and landscaping.

The proposed development is expected to happen in two phases for four years, starting with a building on the east side of the property adjacent to Orange Street and followed by the second building, Fronts Central Avenue to the West. Construction of the park can occur at the same time as any phase.

Other developments from Los Angeles County in Trammell Crow Residential works include The offered Alexan Arojo in Arcadia and Alexan West End in Long Beach.
