Star Valley Jase Burton’s senior was selected as player of the year Gatorade Wyoming Boys Cross Country on Thursday in a Gatorade Company message. Burton won the honor for the first time in his preparatory career. He became the fourth winner of this Star Valley High School award, joining Habtamu Wetzel, Peter Visser and Shane Henderson in this distinction.

Burton was the class 4A state champion last fall and crossed the final line of the state championships with a time of 15: 46.6. He won with about 32 seconds over a teammate and led Braves to his third consecutive team title. 5-10 senior took second place in NXN Northwest Regional in 5K personal best time 14: 55.30. Burton finished 17th at the NXN Championship in December. Jace was a three -time runner in all countries. He was the best finalist from Wyoming at Bob Firman Invitational in Idaho (sixth) and Washington’s hole in the Invitational Wall (Seventh).

Burton is the president of the class every year of high school and is a leader in his church youth group. He also donated his time on behalf of a primary school program that promotes friendly competition and a healthy lifestyle. Burton maintains 4.0 pga in the classroom and is ranked # 1 in his senior class. He remains uncertain for a college destination.

This is the 40th year that Gatorade Company honors the best athletes in high school in the country. Wetzel joins Star Valley Habtamu Wetzel (2023-24), Owen Burnett from Mountain View (2022-23) and Jackson (2021-22), among the former award winners’ list.
