The German governor says the Munich car incident is thought to be an attack – Irvine Times

Authorities said the incident on Thursday was thought to be an attack.

The suspect, an Afghan asylum seeking, was arrested.

The incident follows a series of attacks involving immigrants in recent months that have pushed the migration into the foreground in the February 23 election campaign in Germany.

Participants in a demonstration from the Union of Official Workers Ver.DI walked along the street at about 10.30 am when the car overtook the police vehicle after the collection, accelerated and plowed in the back of the group, police said.

Employees have arrested suspects after a car shot, said police deputy Christian Huber.

He added that at least 28 people were thought to be injured, some seriously.

At the scene of the scene, it could be seen damaged mines, along with debris, including shoes.

The suspect was a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, Mr Huber said.

Bavaria’s State Minister of Interior Joachim Herman said he was known to the authorities in connection with theft and drug crimes, but does not give further details.

“It’s just terrible,” Bavarian governor Marcus Soder told reporters at the scene.

“We feel with the victims, we pray for the victims – we hope they will do it a lot.”

“It is supposed to be an attack – a lot is pointing to it,” added G -n Soder.

Mayor Dieter Reather said he was “deeply shocked” by the incident.

He said the children were among the wounded.

The Munich incident comes three weeks after a two -year -old boy and a man were killed in an attack on a knife in Ascafenburg, also in Bavaria.

Afghanistan, whose claim for asylum was rejected, was suspected of this attack, which drives migration to the center of the German election campaign.

Ascafenburg’s attack followed attacks with a knife in Mannheim and Solingen last year, in which the suspects were respectively immigrants from Afghanistan and Syria, in the latter case, also rejected asylum seeker who had to leave the country.

In the Christmas car for the Christmas markets in December in Magdeburg, the suspect is a Saudi doctor, who had previously reached the attention of various regional authorities.

The main conservative block of Germany, in which the Soder is a prominent figure, demanded a more stringent approach to irregular migration, urging many more people to be turned back to the borders of the country and to increase deportations.

Connected migration is also a major problem for the final right alternative for Germany, which polls are ranked second behind the Conservatives.

“This is more evidence that we cannot move from attack and show horror, we thank the police for their deployment,” said G -n Soder.

“We actually have to change something. This is not the first such act; So, we feel about people today, but at the same time we are determined that something is changing in Germany and fast. “

The government of the Central Left Chancellor Olaf Scholz said it had already done a lot to reduce irregular migration and that the opposition plans were incompatible with the law of the German and European Union.

The Bavarian capital will see heavy security in the coming days, as the three -day conference on security in Munich, an annual gathering of international external and security officers, opens on Friday.

Herman said that the authorities did not believe that the car was connected to the conference, but they still need to determine the motive.
