Do they need routine skin care? – the clinic of Baton Rouge

The capture and uploading every step of your skin care routine during the day or night is all the rage on social media. And it is especially popular with young girls. But do 8- to 12-year-olds really have to worry about anti-aging serums, expensive detergents and humidifiers?

At this minute of the Mayo clinic, Dr. Down Davis, a dermatologist at the Mayo clinic, weighs what should be used and should not use as part of their skin care procedures.

Sharing the steps to achieve younger skin is a popular trend observed in social media. In particular, there are young girls looking for expensive skin care products with anti-aging properties.

“Often these young children will receive complex skin care regimens that are even more complex than adults will use on their own skin,” says Dr. Davis.

She says many anti -aging products have acids and chemicals in them that can be potentially irritating to gentle or young skin.

“The more you expose yourself to a particular chemical, the greater the likelihood, as you age, to develop an irritating or allergic contact dermatitis from these chemicals,” says Dr. Davis.

She says that when it comes to skin as a whole, there is smaller.

“The best things that all children can do because of their skin, a mirror of adults.”

Here’s what she recommends for Tweens at the age of 8 to 12:

  • Wash the face with water and gentle cleansing detergent twice a day.
  • Apply a hypoallergenic, non-funded or non-non-moisturizer on the skin.
  • Apply sunscreen that contains a physical blocker like zinc oxide.

“Once you reach a puberty stage or pre -puberty, it is useful to look for moisturizers that are specific to the face and neck if you are looking for cosmetic improvement,” adds Dr. Davis.

Sunscreen is recommended for all 6 months or more. She also recommends sunscreen from at least SPF 15 when indoors and at least SPF 30 when outdoors.

Something else anyone can do to help their skin healthy is to avoid smoking and exposure to second -hand smoke.
