LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock broke a new high temperature record Sunday afternoon. 91° was the afternoon high, breaking the previous record of 87° set in 1922.
After a day of clear conditions, some scattered to high cloud will fill the region overnight. Winds will also pick up, helping to maintain mild temperatures. They are still about 15° above the average of the 1950s and 1960s.
Surface winds will be very cool through dawn and then continue to increase in the afternoon near 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 30-35 mph are expected.
Along with breezy conditions, we expect another day of record-breaking heat. Highs will be around 80 and 90 degrees, which is nearly 20° above average temperatures for this time of year.
So our weekly outlook is warm and breezy on Monday and Tuesday. Still windy Wednesday, but cooler as a cold front moves in, leaving Thursday cooler as well. Thursday night (Halloween) is when the rain chances will start to increase. Then we’ll finally keep a decent chance of rain in the forecast for the rest of the weekend.
