White Rock Boardwalk is an idea worth exploring – The Dallas Morning News

White Rock Boardwalk is an idea worth exploring – The Dallas Morning News

The road may be exactly what the southeast corner of Lake White Rock needs. We hope to see some creative funding to revive this idea.

A briefing before the parks, paths and the environment of the Dallas Municipal Council on February 3 includes a supplement to the Lake Master, offering a pedestrian alley above the water. The area in question – a Garland Road section near the overflow of the lake – is where pedestrian and bicycle traffic is closest to the Multilane City Traffic.

Last year, the incidents twice sent vehicles that were on the street and the path, NBC5 reported. Since then, temporary barriers have been installed, further crowding the angle.

He is Dicey as he is, and the erosion of the coastline will only make him worse. Moving pedestrians from the street is a safe option. Plus, this would create another convenience along the shores of the white rock.

Deputy Director of the Park and Recreation Ryan O’Connor told us it would cost about $ 1.5 million to build a 10-foot period, 1,200 feet of long Boardwalk stretch. Doing the walk twice as much would cost twice as much. But most city paths are between eight and 12 feet wide, he said. The proposal is currently to move the entire leg and bicycle traffic to the pedestrian walkway and knock off the existing concrete path, although O’Connor said the plans were still at an early stage.

It is envisaged that the Master Plan updates will go to the Municipal Council on February 26 and the park board on March 6th.

The Briefing on February 3 talked about the inclusion of the project into a future bond program, but we like better financing the member of the Board Paula Blackmon.

“Go to seek some money from grants,” Blackmon told consultants with Dunaway Associates who helped develop the master plan. We agree. And O’Connor said the city was doing just that.

White Rock Lake is a convenience that is somehow too used and neglected. Dallas residents tend to take it for granted. And the city is not up to date with a plan for the long -term maximization of the asset. Dunaway Consultants stressed that the master plan had not received serious attention for more than two decades.

The good management and safety of pedestrians are enough reasons to take this idea seriously.
