The White House says it has the right to punish AP reporters for the Gulf Naming Dispute – San Bernardino County Sun

By David Boder, Associated Press

New York (AP) – The White House said on Wednesday that news organizations refusing to use President Donald Trump’s new name for the Gulf of Mexico say “lies” and insist that it will continue to ban the journalists of the Associated Press from Presidential events.

Trump has ruled that the international water body – which borders Mexico, the United States and other nations – is called a bay. In his influential style, AP said he would continue to use the Gulf of Mexico, while noting Trump’s decision to ensure that the names of geographical characteristics are recognizable worldwide.

The White House’s frank experience to regulate the language used by the independent media – and the punitive measures implemented to it – note a sharp escalation in Trump’s commonly executed transactions with news organizations.
