North Arizona Battles Boise State in Mountain Classic Matchplay Final – Northern Athletics of the University of Arizona

Palm Desert, Ariz. (February 12, 2025) – The women’s golf team in North Arizona is fighting the hosts of the Boise State tournament at the Mountain Classic Matchplay final, losing 3-0-2 closely.

“Overall it was a great experience. We had three difficult matches and managed to get wins at the end of the first two games,” chief coach Brad Bedoorta He said. “Today we just couldn’t get the victory out. We had great efforts and saw many great things that were happening. I look forward to a great semester with the tournaments we scheduled!”

It was first Ellen Slatercompeting against Teal Matsueda. Slater took advantage of the second hole, going 1-up before her opponent answers a square of the match. They half halfway to the fourth hole with birds and the entire square to the 10th hole remained. Boise State pulled forward to 3-up to the 12th hole. Burd-back from Slater reduced the deficit to one, but Boyz State answered with a bird to go 2-up and lead the lead to secure a 2-up win.

Second for “Jacques was Amy Hodgkinswho faced Hannah Lim. Hodgkins took the lead early, going 1 up after two holes. She extended her lead to 2 up after three and made a bird on the next hole to go 3-up after four. A string of four Pars followed, giving her a 6-up leader after eight holes. Another bird of the ninth hole put her 7-up. The next three holes were halved, providing a dominant win 7 and 5 for NAU.

Ava Bates He went to third place against Brooke Patterson. The match remained tied to the fifth hole where her opponent made a bird to go 1-up. Bates was 2 down the bend, but he pressed the 10th to reduce the deficit. Boise State won the 13th with a bird, but Bates replied with one of his own on the 14th. In the end, the match ended in favor of Boise State, 3 and 2.

Sumin Kang faced Jillian Hui in the fourth pair. Kang led an early lead from 1-up in the first two holes before the shot shot to fire the match. Hui made two birds in three holes to take a 2-up lead from the sixth. Kang found himself on the 3rd turn, but made birds on the 10th and 14th hole to enter one. In the end, she fell 2 and 1.

Rounding the composition, Lizi Neil You took Annie Buffolino. Playing as an individual, Nina Lukiananenko faced Lily Vinchelli from South Dakota. Lukyanenko briefly went 1-down after four holes, but won the next with a draw. She then made three consecutive birds, one of which her opponent coincided. At the turn, Lukiananenko was 3-up. Her opponent pulled away, returning the All-Square match to the 16th. After half the 17th, Lukiananenko won 1-up win with the final bird of the 18th.

Also competes as an individual, Frankie Desis I took Lucia Morelli from Wyoming. Desis came out on a hot start, winning the first five holes. Birds of holes 7, 10 and 11 helped her extend to 7-up lead. A shot on the 12th returned it to a 6-up, but the stable nominal part of the 13th was enough to seal a command of 7 and 5.

North Arizona’s women’s golf team will head to Phoenix on February 25-26 for the Invitational Grand Canyon.
