Topeka’s business is preparing for Valentine’s Day in the winter storm – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw) – The roses are red, the violets are blue and the snow will not slow down some local companies to show you love for you.

“It’s beautiful, but it has an effect on us,” said Boswell owner Lori McNorton. “This means we need to prepare the flowers to get out a little differently. If it freezes everything, it must be wrapped individually. ”

Blooms on Boswell began preparing for Valentine’s Day months ago. Every day, even snowy days, counts.

“We are starting to prepare for this probably four months as far as what we have to order for flowers and then two weeks in starting to prepare our containers,” McNorton said. “This is a continuing process.”

Valentine’s Day focuses on the production of hundreds of bouquets. The most difficult part is when it’s time to focus on your special person.

“On Friday, they will be diverted to go out. We are trying to get everything out in the morning, “McNorton said. “It may take a little longer, so we hope our customers admit it.”

Hazel Hill Chocolate has the same snowy delivery dilemma, but does not stop them from signing their Valentine’s Strawberry Strawberries.

“We hope on Thursday and Friday when we have to make all the supplies that cities are clearing the streets and it seems to be in their game for it,” said Hazel Hill Nick Xidis owner. “It certainly doesn’t help to have this day in the middle of the blizzard.”

They spent their snowy day receiving some of more than 400 pounds of strawberries ready for February 14: one of their most busy days of the year.

“If you look at the typical retail day, Valentine’s Day is 20 to 25 times more than a volume in a day,” Xidis said. “So it will swing.”
