Chesapeake, W.VA. Mayor outlines the vision of the future with the first phase of destruction – WCHS

Chesapeake, W.VA, (WCHS) – The town of Chesapik in Kanaha County is launching a project to destroy $ 250,000 to get rid of destroyed structures.

This project is funded by grants from the environmental action plan in West Virginia. People in the city said they were ready to see the positive changes they would make.

Brian Bowen believes that better days are coming to the town of Chesapik.

“I think it will be great,” Bowen said. “Once you download these places, we hope you attract more businesses in the area and safe. You attract people in what you want to live here, new families are coming in.”

He said these structures were a viewer and a danger to his family and neighbors.

“In the past, we have had problems in which a trailer has ignited and there are people who live behind the home. You run the risk of hurting innocent people who have nothing to do and just trying to live their daily lives,” he said.

Mayor Melissa Hill said they had listed 60 properties, which were considered abandoned or destroyed.

“In fact, we went out on the ground, we block to block. Listed homes, we reached for property owners,” said Hill.

The goal is to get them all. They are currently on the way to demonstration seven. She said they wanted to recycle mobile homes when possible.

“Many of these homes are older. At this point, it’s time to break down, and this helps us get rid of the eyes we have in the city and the opportunity to start over with some opportunities for housing development,” she said.

The city asked for nearly a million dollars to deal with the problem.

“We asked for $ 966,000. You always want to ask for as much as you can and then they give what they can. So this is our first round $ 250,000 is evidence of implementation. We have never had this money to make this internally here in Chesapik, “she said.

Hill said they were 18 months after this project, and she hoped that these demolitions could lead to bigger projects for the city, such as a new main street and new micro homes.
