PHOENIX – $26 million federal grant was awarded to the Arizona Department of Transportation for expansion US 93 to a four-lane divided highway northwest of Wickenburg.
“Separating US 93 all the way between Wickenburg and State Route 89 will improve both safety and mobility in the area.” ADOT Director Jennifer Toth said in a statement. “We are grateful to the US Department of Transportation and our partners at Wickenburg for helping to advance this high-priority work on a key link between the Valley and Las Vegas.”
US Department of Transportation Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant will give an opportunity ADOT to extend current extending the project 1.27 miles between Wickenburg Ranch Way and just northwest of State Route 89, thereby constructing about 4.5 miles of four-lane divided highway.
Several miles of highway currently being widened in Wickenburg will connect to the section.
The City of Wickenburg and ADOT worked collaboratively on the grant application.
ADOT, which has allocated nearly half a billion dollars to widen and improve US 93 over the past few years, aims to turn the entire route into a four-lane divided highway.
What else will the US 93 widening project include?
US 93 will not only be widened from two to four lanes, but the project will also include other improvements:
-
Roundabout at the intersection of US 93 and State Route 89
-
Broadband pipeline
-
Eight foot shoulders
-
A new bridge on the BNSF railroad tracks that includes a pedestrian walkway
-
Separate right and left turn lanes
