BATON ROUGE, LA – The Sam Houston Bowling Team battled for second place at the Southern Queens Tournament held at All Star Lanes on Sunday.
The Bearkats avenged two losses to UAB on Saturday to earn a 4-3 victory to advance to the championship game. The Dragons were able to defeat Arkansas State to set up a rematch in the title game.
The Kats won game one, then tied the game with a 213-189 win over UAB in game two. The two teams traded wins, but UAB was able to seal it with a 208-185 victory in the best-of-seven finale.
The Bearkats went 6-3 over the first two days to take the overall lead heading into Sunday’s bracket play for the second time this season. Sam Houston had a total of 9,449 pins, giving him a 279-pin lead over UAB and 538 over third-place Tulane.
Day two on Saturday was a mixed bag for the Kats. They had a close win over Morgan State, swept Southern, then lost two matches to UAB by a total of 10 pins.
Stephanie McCoy had a big game against UAB with 249 and Mia Green led with 187 in the win over Morgan State, 245 against Southern and 224 in the second game with UAB.
Sam Houston will host the TRACK Kat Klash this coming weekend at the Emerald Bowl in Houston November 1-3.
