Blacksburg, va – A powerful winter storm brought a considerable snowfall in Virginia and southeastern Western Virginia, with some areas being observed above the leg of accumulation. The largest snow fell in the high mountainous regions of Arena and parts of southeastern Western Virginia, creating dangerous conditions.

According to the National Meteorological Service (NWS) in Blexburg, the snowfall is from February 11 to February 12, shows widespread accumulations of 6 to 12 inches. The higher hills received the most snow, affecting travel and daily procedures.

Road crews are working to clear the highways, but the icy conditions continue in many areas. Officials are urging drivers to be careful, especially on untreated roads. Schools and businesses report closure and delays due to insidious conditions.

Residents are encouraged to report snowfall sums through the NWS website to help refine the forecasts. The storm escaped, but prolonged cold temperatures can lead to a review overnight.

Authorities recommend limiting travel, dressing warmly and checking for time updates. Later during the week, more heating conditions are expected, which can help to melt the accumulated snow.
