Economist Dr. Ray Periman says the current tariff plan, 25 percent of Mexico imports and 25 percent on imports excluding Canada’s energy, can cause widespread workplace losses that would be felt in Eastern Texas if they are accepted permanently.

Perima says he does not believe that the potential benefits of the tariff would exceed their harm, but he believes that they would be withdrawn quickly if they were applied at all.
