Obituary

Donald Burry (Don), from San Clemente, California, died on January 12, 2025, at the age of 93. Don was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota until the age of 14 when his family moved to Glendale, California. Don graduated from Glendale High School and visited Glendale Community College before being activated in the Navy, serving during the Korean War of the USS Princeton aircraft carrier. After discharge, Don completed his education at the USC with a specialty business administration, followed by a 40+ year old career as a corporate accountant.

Don had lifelong love for the boat, owning several boats throughout his life, from 12 ‘Runabout, to his beloved, 36’ Catalina Mailboat, Spindrift II. Don liked to bring his family and friends on a canvas and fulfilled a dream throughout his life when in 2010 he sailed Spindrift II in the Newport race to Esenada Yacht.

With his wife Janet, he touring the US and abroad, including trips to Hawaii, Japan, Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Don survived his wife at 68, Janet; His children were (Robin), Linda (Ray) and John, along with 2 granddaughters and 2 great -grandchildren and his brother Roy.

The post -service service was set for March 8 at 1:00 pm in the United Methodist Church of St. Andrew in San Clemente.
