Swindon MP visits the pension community to discuss dwellings for the elderly – this is Wiltshire

Heidi Alexander, MP from Swindon South, visited McCarthy Stone’s Gilbert Place earlier this month.

The Labor MP has toured the development and talks to the residents about the value of the housing specifically designed for the elderly.

Gilbert Place, located on Lowry Way, includes 65 private apartments for those over 70 years of age, including 12 apartments sold through the accession scheme of a more adult government (OPSO).

The development also includes shared areas, bistro on the spot and a special care and maintenance team available 24/7, 365 days a year.

G -ja Alexander said: “It was a real pleasure to visit the homeowners in Gilbert Place and we had an excellent discussion on various topics, including local health services in Swindon.

“We also talked about the important role that retirement communities like these play to maintain older people happier and healthier, as well as the provision of additional and much needed homes in the local area.”

The property manager, Natasha Duire, runs a team of about 20 colleagues at Gilbert Place, including care and maintenance staff and a specialized chef.

D -Ja Duire said: “It was great for Heidi to visit our development and meet with our wonderful residents, including some who purchased their apartment through the accessible scheme for shared government ownership.

“We are passionate about working with the elderly to create living communities and be able to tell our local MP about these benefits was a privilege.”

Currently, the United Kingdom is facing a residential crisis, with a shortage of suitable homes to support the aging population.

This means that many elderly people do not have access to homes at affordable prices that take care of their care and support needs with advancing age.

McCarthy Stone helps to cope with this challenge and calls on the government to comply with the recommendations of the older residential working group of older people “Our Future Homes”, published in November 2024.

The other Gilbert Place apartments are available through the OPSO government scheme, with prices starting at 130,000 British pounds.

McCarthy Stone is the leading developer of the United Kingdom and Pension Communities Manager.

Its customers maintain their independence in a secure, modern private home as they enjoy the tranquility, which helps and care if necessary.

Since January 2025, the McCarthy Stone has operated 549 developments in the UK for more than 22,000 people.
