A reporter blocked by the oval office over Mexican Gulf – Irvine Times

President Donald Trump ordered the area to be renamed the bay of America.

The reporter, whom the AP would not identify, was rejected in an attempt to enter the White House event on Tuesday. A second AP reporter was banned from an event late in the evening at the White House diplomatic hall.

The extremely unusual ban that the Trump administration employees threatened earlier in the day, unless the AP changed the style of the bay, there could be no constitutional consequences for free speech.

The agency’s senior vice president and executive editor Julie Pace called the course of the administration unacceptable.

“It is worrying that the Trump administration will punish the AP for its independent journalism,” she said in a statement. “Restricting our access to the oval office based on the content of the AP speech not only seriously impedes public access to independent news, but it obviously violates the first amendment.”

The Trump administration did not make instant messages about the moves and there were no indications that were affected by other journalists.

Trump has long had a racing relationship with the media. On Friday, the administration dumped a second group of news organizations from the Pentagon’s office space.

Before taking office on January 20, Trump announced plans to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the US Gulf, signing an enforcement order as soon as he was in service.

Body water – called the Gulf of Mexico for more than 400 years – also borders Mexico. Mexico President responded sarcastic and others noted that a change in name would probably not affect global use.

The AP said last month would continue to refer to the Gulf of Mexico, while noting G -N Trump’s decision to rename it. As a global news agency that spreads news around the world, AP says it has to ensure that names and geography are easily recognizable to the entire audience.

The White House Correspondents Association called the White House movement unacceptable and called on the administration to change the course.

“The White House cannot dictate how news organizations are reporting on the news, nor should working journalists be sanctioned, as this is dissatisfied with the decision of their editors,” said Association President Eugene Daniels.

This week, Google Maps began to use the Gulf of Persian, saying it has a “long -standing practice” to follow the US government leadership on similar issues. Apple Maps still used the Gulf of Mexico early on Tuesday, but by the early evening it had changed in the bay of some browsers, although at least one search gave results for both.
