Mayor-President Edwards declares initiatives for crimes in Parish-Wbrz

Baton Rouge-Mayor-President Sid Edwards and other urban Irony staff on Tuesday have announced a couple of new crime initiatives, which they say will make East Baton Rouge Parish safer.

The first initiative is the implementation of a law adopted last year, which will allow the retired police officers to return to a custody of part -time, while maintaining their retirement benefits.

Batton Rouge police chief TJ Morse said the department was working for retired officers for some time. Morse added that retired officers will be able to work up to 29 hours, assisting services for support, cold cases and other auxiliary duties. They will not respond to service calls.

A spokesman for Edwards said the $ 3 million fund was allocated to the pension program but did not identify the source of money.

The second initiative would increase the payments for crime advice tips presented in the first 48 hours after a crime. Criminal stoppers pay the peaks whose information leads to arrests and accusations.

Crime farmers are currently paying $ 2,500 for murder advice and $ 5,000 for multiple murder advice. According to the new offer, Tipsters will receive a double amount for each type of advice.

Capital Region Crime Stopers CEO Johnny Dunnam said the program had paid nine of separate calls last year that led to the arrest in the case of murder.

“The program works,” Dunham said.

Edwards said he and his team hoped that increased payments lead to faster arrests in the case of murder.

Edwards said both programs would help “preserve citizens and childcare children”.

Edwards added that new programs are intended to strengthen and improve the efforts of former mayor Sharon Weston Broome, but neither Edwards nor Morse provide specific data.

Edwards says there are “a million ways to attack this problem with crime” and that these plans are some of the ways they can be done. He noted that Social services and public work are also important parts of the plan. He has not developed.

The announcement of the new initiatives comes a few days after Edwards has announced a plan that will divert money from special taxes on ownership of the parish library system in the common fund where it can be used for police and other departments. This will also reduce the amount of money raised through this tax.

If approved by the subway advice, the future of the proposal will be in the hands of the voters.

The police budget was also reduced by about $ 9 million last year.
