Winston – Salem Schools for Termination of Virtual Training for Elementary Students After 3 years – WXLV

Winston-Salem, NC-Plain School District plans to gradually eliminate its virtual training program for elementary students over the next three years, starting next year. The school board staff decided to move the students back to traditional classrooms, indicating the low number of enrollment and concerns about the suitability of virtual education for the younger children.

The Virtual Academy of Central and High School will be moved to Winston-Salem Prep and will continue during the school year 2027-2028. However, the Academy will stop accepting third -graders after 2026.

Members of the school council said the changes were needed to address the challenges facing the current virtual training. The elementary virtual program will be completely terminated by the end of the school year 2027-2028.
