Birmingham, Ala. – Family fights the devastating loss of Demarive Cherry, which was caught in the cross fire of Avenue Roscoe. At least 40 shots were fired, leaving the cherry lifeless in place.

Jacquin Moore, Cherry’s sister, told about the painful moment when she learned that her brother had been shot.

“We heard rifles and jumped to the ground,” she said. “They were like a dude with a light skin with horror, so I called his phone three times and he didn’t answer.”

After reaching the scene, Moore found his brother lying on the ground. She immediately called their mother Tiffany Moore to convey the heartbreaking news.

“She said Mama Demory was dead,” Tiffany Moore said. “I said he couldn’t be dead because he was just in his room.”

Cherry had left his home to go to the store when he was caught in the shootout. Tiffany Moore approached a police officer in Birmingham at the scene that informed her about the passage of her son. “I broke and I cried. I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“He would get out of his way to make sure everyone was good,” Jacquin Moore said. “He was caring, sweet, kind. He just got along with everyone.”

Cherry was in the process of starting a non -profit purpose with his mentor Chris Puanda, aimed at bringing mentors into neighborhoods in need of positive influences. Paunda recalled Cherry’s infectious enthusiasm.

“You look outside and there is no much excitement and enthusiasm there, and he has always had excitement and enthusiasm,” Paunda said. “Everyone loved him, no one was Cutle with him. Everyone knew him. He just had this real positive aura.”

The funeral of Demari Cherry will be held on the campus of the Highlands Woodlawn Church on Thursday at 11 o’clock, with the release of a balloon during his funeral.

The Birmingham Police Department did not provide an update to the investigation from the Night of the shooting. Initially, two people were removed for questioning.
