The experience of the crisis could give people “renewed appreciation for social relationships and meaningful activities,” academics said.

But they stressed that the degree of depression seems to be still slightly increased compared to the PE-2020.

Experts have analyzed data from a long -term study, English longitudinal aging study, tracking the well -being of people aged 50 in time.

The numbers of 3999 people show that self -evaluations of happiness; Edemonic well -being – which measures whether life feels useful; And the satisfaction of life, everyone decreased during the pandemic.

But they found that all aspects of positive well -being improved in a statistically significant way after the pandemic.

And measures to track the edemonic well -being and satisfaction of life are significantly higher than before the pandemic.

In contrast, the levels of depression among the group did not return to the levels before the pandemic.

About 11.4% reported depressive symptoms before the Covid-19, and during the pandemic, it launched to 27.2% at the end of 2020.

But recent measures show that after the pandemic levels of depression, they have dropped to 14.9% among the study group, according to the study published in the magazine for aging and mental health.

“Our study showed that the pandemia has a deep influence on the well -being of the elderly in England,” said study presenter, author Paola Zanina, professor of medical and social statistics in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health of UCL.

“As many would expect, we found that well -being decreased during the pandemic and cases of depression increased.

“While depression is still a little more widespread than before 2020, it is remarkable that overall older people are more happier, more satisfied and have a greater sense of purpose than before the pandemic.

“We can only speculate on the reasons for this. It may reflect renewed appreciation for social relationships and meaningful activities, as well as increased psychological resilience after a period of discomfort.

“Improved health security after widespread vaccinations can also contribute to this positive change.

“We have seen significant differences in age and wealth, emphasizing the importance of adapted support policies for the immediate and prolonged effects of pandemics on the well-being of our older population.”

The numbers of the National Welfare Office of National Statistics show that between July and September 2024, about one in 20 (4.7%) from the UK adults reported that they have low levels of satisfaction with their lives.

A smaller part (3.6%) gave a “low” rating when asked how useful the things they do in life are.

Meanwhile, 7.7% rated their happiness the previous day as “low”.

More adults in the UK reported that they were experiencing “high anxiety yesterday” in July until September 2024 (22.5%) compared to July to September 2019 (20.4%).

And the share of adults in the UK, reporting some evidence of depression or anxiety, has increased in the long run, according to ONS.

About 22.6% reported some evidence of depression or anxiety in 2022 until 2023, compared to 19.7% in 2017 to 2018.
