Mules that helped with the transmission of hurricane helen disasters killed in a tragic catastrophe – FOX 5 Las Vegas

Mount Ulla, NC (WXII) – a North Carolina community complains the loss of three mules that played a vital role after Hurricane Helen.

Animals helped to get a lot of necessary deliveries in parts of Western North Carolina, devastated by the storm.

However, early on Sunday morning, Mike and Michelle Toberer received a call that three of their mules, Vader, Amigo and KEV were struck and killed by a car.

The family said that the tree had damaged the fence on the ranch of the mountain mules, allowing the mules to deviate from their pasture before being struck.

The entire Toberers train was essential for receiving deliveries in areas where cars and other equipment could simply not go in the months after Helen’s devastation in West North Carolina.

For the Toberer family and many of the people they encounter, the mules are more than a simple pack of animals.

“The mules themselves have brought a lot of hope to the people I think even today feel forgotten,” said Michele Toberer. “The size of the work they had done for the efforts to relieve was incredible. So, it just feels that there is a loss of so many layers. “

Toberers say they will continue their relief and scope through their non -profit MUS missions.
