Durham man pleads guilty in support trying to join Isis – Wral News

A Durham man on Tuesday pleaded guilty to supporting and attempting to join the ISIS terrorist group months earlier.

According to the US law firm, Alexander Justin White found guilty of a conspiracy for providing and attempting to material support for ISIS.

The 29-year-old White was arrested on December 4, 2024, at Reli-Dum’s International Airport, while trying to get on an airplane to join the group in Morocco.

“In this case, the great work of the joint working group on the FBI (JTTF) was presented, which led to the detention and arrest of individual planning to join ISIS and potentially participate in terrorist acts against the United States or other allies,” said The acting American lawyer Daniel Bubar.

The FBI began investigating White in May after starting to post ISIS support on his Facebook account. During the FBI investigation, federal investigators learned that White has been buying several firearms and has been training with them for years according to photos in the original complaint. Later, White filmed a video of himself, promising his support for ISIS and sent him to what he thinks he is a group in the group.

On September 24, 2024, prosecutors claim that White spoke with a “confidential human source (CHS)” by the FBI, posing as a spokesman for ISIS commander.

Asked if he was sure of his joining the group, White replied that he had done it and felt that it was for him, but added that he was concerned to talk to the wrong people and make it difficult.

Then the undercover agent asked White if it was good with the murder of members of US military or US citizens. Then White said, “If he was a family member, I would still fight them … There is no love for American troops for the Motherland or something of that thing.”

Investigators later confirmed that White reserved flights from Rolly-Dramum (RDU) to Paris, France and Rabat, Morocco, on December 4, 2024, and its return to RDU was scheduled on December 18, 2024.

White faces up to 20 years in prison.
