Student arrested after employees find a loaded pistol in the bag - wafb

Baton Rouge, La. (WAFB) Deputies said they arrested a 16-year-old student after a loaded gun was found in the book bag.

The weapon was opened around 7:50 am on Monday, February 10, MPs said.

According to the Sheriff’s office of East Baton Rouge, the gun was found in a book bag in Tara High School during a random search by the special drug group at Ebro School.

The student said he did not know that the gun was in his bag, MPs said. They added that there were no threats.

The School System in East Baton Rouge sent the following letter to the parents:

Dear Families in Tara High School,

I want to take some time to inform you of a situation that happened on our campus this morning. Our student dean found a weapon in an abandoned backpack outside the school. Thanks to the in -depth investigation, we were able to identify the responsible student and since then the student has been accused by the school working group for drugs.

The student abandoned the backpack after seeing security measures upon arrival. This incident enhances the importance of our safety protocols and we are grateful to our dean for its vigilance in providing the well -being of our students and employees. We firmly believe that our security measures have helped prevent entering our campus of this weapon.

As we continue to prioritize the safety of everyone in Tara High School, we ask your support in talking to your children about the dangers and consequences of bringing any kind of weapons into school. Our school has a zero tolerance policy for this behavior and we will take quick and appropriate actions to maintain a safe learning environment.

Thank you for the partnership to keep Tara a highly secure and supportive place for all students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact.

The student is accused of illegally carrying a firearm and carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon in the school property.
