Education

Education seems to be a cornerstone of the better Louisiana program. Both the C100 and CABL played a role in shaping the new Louisiana education formula, which will come into force for the 2025-2026 school year. In the future, the better Louisiana plans to advocate for the successful application of this formula and to ensure that it leads to measurable improvements in the results of the students. Expanding the apprenticeship and internship for high school students will also be a key focal area, according to KNAPP.

“Many of our education indicators are moving in the right direction and this must continue,” Knap said.

Economic development

The better Louisiana is closely monitoring the preparation of the new Strategic Plan for Louisiana for Economic Development-the first such plan of 16 years-which will establish the long-term economic goals of the Agency for the State and identify the target industries for growth. After ending sometime in March, KNAPP expects governor Jeff Landri and Louisiana’s legislation to look at the replacement of the recently sacrificed quality quality program with a new stimulation program built on these goals.

Insurance

Increasing insurance rates – especially when it comes to car and real estate insurance – become a major concern for both business and residents. According to KNAPP, the insurance crisis should be seen as one of the most common challenges for economic development to the state, as more and more businesses will be forced to move or close if the costs continue to increase.

Infrastructure

Last year, the Landri administration introduced external research partners to prepare a report on how the Ministry of Transport and Development of Louisiana could be optimized, and a few weeks ago DOTD released its analysis and response to this report. Better Louisiana is “eagerly digging into these reports,” Knap said to evaluate the potential policy recommendations.

Workforce

Louisiana ranks 43rd in the nation when it comes to participating in the workforce, according to KNAPP. If the state introduces itself to the national average, it will have 140,000 more residents involved in its labor force.

“We are really excited that the state takes into account a lot of data, especially as regards the involvement of the workforce and tries to think what it means to have more of our residents who are [currently] In the sidelines of the economy, they are actively involved in the economy, “Knap said.
