Defense Secretary Pete Heget signs a memorandum to rename Fort Liberti – WEK

Wilmington, NC (Wect) – Defense Minister Pete Heget signed a memorandum, renaming Fort Liberty on Monday, according to a statement from the US Department of Defense.

Secretary Heget signed the memorandum while flying aboard the C-17 from the Joint Base Andrews to Stuttgart.

The new name will be Fort Roland L. Bragg, Reverend to PFC. Roland L. Brag, who was a hero of World War II, won the silver star and the purple heart because of his courage during the battle of the bulge.

“This change emphasizes the heritage of the installation to recognize those who have demonstrated exclusive service and victim for the nation,” the statement said.
