Month of Black History: Worship of Lella Thompson – WEK

Wilmington, NC (Wect) -We all emphasize places, people and moments that shape black history in southeastern North Carolina.

Lella Thompson was the first black woman to graduate Wilmington College, who is now the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

He won a bachelor’s degree in 1967.

After graduating, Thompson continued to teach in the schools of New Hanover County for more than 30 years.

For nearly two decades, she has been the president of Willis Richardson players, a theater group working to place local black actors in the spotlight.

Thompson died on December 30, 2022.
