Who is Nancy Mace? From cadet to congress, what you need to know about her career. – the post and courier

The Republican Congressman Nancy Mace, 47 -year -old, represents the Congress of Congress Congress in South Carolina since 2020. The seat extends from Big Charleston to Bofant County.

Here’s a quick synopsis of Mace’s career:

No newcomer in national titles

In 1999, Mace became the first female graduate of the former all male cadets in the Citadel, the State Military College in Charleston.

She is the co -author of a book on experience called “In the Company of Men: A Woman in the Citadel.”

Her raid into politics came after she runs a media and public relations company that boasts clients like Tim Scott and Mick Mulvani.

Political career

In 2018, Mace won a place at the House of National Assembly representatives covering her home district Berkli and Daniel Island, a suburb of Charleston.

Her success in the election came four years after an ill -fated main challenge of GOP to US Senator Lindsay Graham. She served in the State House for a term.

Jumped into the congress

In 2020, Mace closely defeated the one -time democratic American reporter Joe Cunningham to win the first state congress district, winning her place in the Federal Service.

The district became more refurbish as a result of the census in 2020. It is considered to be a safe Republican territory and includes a combination of pensioners, military officials and suburban voters.

Once, Mace emerges as an independent Republican. It is defined as a fiscal conservative, but has tilted closer to the center of certain social problems such as prohibitions of abortion, where it supports exceptions to women who become pregnant as a result of rape or incest, or if their lives are at risk.

Mace openly discussed to be raped at the age of 16.

In recent months, it has been an outspoken opponent of transgender movement, including intercession to restrict transgender women from the use of women’s toilets. She called transgender people “mentally ill.”

Mace and Trump

Her relationship with President Donald Trump was hesitant about loyalism to focus on something between them.

Previously, she worked on his first presidential campaign in South Carolina. After January 6, 2021, an attack on the US Capitol, she distanced herself, saying that all Republicans made in the previous four years – including Trump – “were deleted in only a few short hours.”

One specific moment in 2022 illustrated Mace’s complex relationship with Trump.

The day after Trump approved his main republican main contender, Mace made titles when he made a video of himself, stood in front of the Trump Tower in New York. In it, she defended her political credibility and emphasized her ties to Trump as she asked whether her opponent could deliver to the area.

But this is a distant story. During the 2024 election season, she returned to Trump’s good graces, raising his approval. Today, she is identified as a strong supporter of Maga and supporter of his agenda.

Personal

Along the trail of the campaign, Mace made numerous mentions of how her work ethics was shaped by the time she spent working at the Waffle House at Road College Park in Ladson as a teenager.

She is a non -family, but she had two previous marriages. She is a mother of two school age.
