Tallahasese City Commission to look at nearly $ 350,000 in settlement claims Next meeting – Tallahassee Democrat

The Tallahasese City Commission will vote on Wednesday to approve two legal agreements that can cost nearly $ 350,000.

A local church, business and resident are looking for relief from the city for damage caused by utility accidents, including a sewer spill and an accidental flood.

The materials on the agenda show that the city was asked to fix a total of $ 142,000 to cover the costs that both the resident and the graceful church of Talahasi, made after the sewer ended in the home and church center for kindergartens.

Last July, the main sewer line clogged, causing the sewer background. It was confirmed that the line was clogged “from the roots of trees and other products”.

The Church “causes significant damage to the interior of their daily care establishment in addition to the loss of personal property,” say the materials on the agenda. The resident also had property damage to a smaller amount.

Tallahassee is known for the sewage spills and this is not the first related court process to be governed.

In March 2024, a building owned by Sangit2020 at John Knox Road’s Woodcrest office park was flooded with sewage after one of the city’s main lines clogged and led to a backup in the building. The company filed a lawsuit against the city and received $ 105,000 for damage.

A month later, the family’s home was flooded by one of the 11 sewage spills that followed after a powerful storm system flooded a large part of the capital and the county and caused the sewer pipes to overflow.

Confusion of utility leads to flooded business

In early January, the New Karma LLC repaired a square and asked the city to connect electricity. When city workers arrived, they mistakenly connect the water to the building instead of electricity.

“The next morning, it was found that the wrong utility was associated, which caused a flood of three of the four units and significant damage, exceeding the legal amount,” the materials on the agenda say.

The company will receive $ 200,000 to cover the costs of cleaning, repairing and replacing real estate and other expenses incurred due to mixing.
