By Gator to Raider: Former Florida RB Earnest Graham, hired as Santa Fe – Gainesville Sun’s chief football coach

Santa Fe’s football won only two games from 2021, but Raiders took the one step first in their recovery as they hired the legendary Florida RB Earnest Graham as a new head coach on Saturday.

The former Gator is already a striker.

The Santa Fe High School football program will have its fourth chief trainer from 2022 next season, but this one comes with a little more recognition of name.

On Saturday, Raiders officially hired Earnest Graham as their new head coach. Graham, the legendary Florida Gaters, who goes back, comes to Alachua after a season as an offensive coordinator in Gainesville Hi.

“I was praying for the opportunity to be able to train in a proud community,” Graham said. “This is a community that appreciates what the play of football can do for a community because there is a history of excellence, but also what he can do to a young man because he is vibrant.”

Who is the most serious Graham?

Graham is a legend throughout Florida football. He began at Mariner High School in Fort Myers, where he was Mr. Florida in 1997, and an entirely American magazine Parade.

He then moved to Gainesvil for the first time as Gator in Florida. In UF, Graham was an alkal freshman in 1999 and a second All-Sect team in 2001. It ranks near the top of many football records in Florida, like 5 records, like 5th in fast yards (3,065) and 4th For rush sensors (33).

Following is a nine -year career with Buccaneers Tampa Bay, where Graham became loved because of his work ethics and the attitude towards the team.

Graham’s legacy, of course, lives with his son Miles Graham, a sophomore in Florida. Miles was the All-SEC Freshman in 2024 with 30 equipment, one interception, one sack and one forced blow.

Where did Graham train before?

Graham is no stranger to the coaching world. For much of his career after playing, he was on the sidelines. He fought a program of North Fort Myers in 2013, which was 0-10 in the season before.

The Red Knights had .500 recording its first three seasons before the unbeaten season in 2017 and the first program of the 1994 program.

NFM’s struggles before Graham look ominous as Santa Fe. Raiders are one of only two programs in Alachua County with two state titles (1990 and 1994), but they have not had a winning season since 2015. SF has combined two wins in the last four seasons.

“My goal was to get young men to perceive physicality and to embrace that they could compete at this level,” Graham said. “Every job I had was like that. With each of them, I see more items to make you more favorable for long-term success. “

Graham trained for a season at Oasis (Cape Coral), then with Miles in an evangelical Christian (Fort Myers) and Woodward Academy in Atlanta.

Last season, he joined the former Gator teammate Ian Scott and helped Gainesville High go from one win to five wins. Graham admitted how difficult it is to leave his friend and the reverse.

“We have similar experiences, so he fully understood and supports me,” Graham said. “It was difficult to leave, but this situation had many elements that were difficult to resist.”

Graham believes his year at GHS shows that the proof is in the pudding – you can quickly turn through a fight program. The hurricanes had a victory combined in 2022 and 2023.

“This really shows the illustration of what we’re talking about,” Graham said. “When you get together, when you break good people, you can restore the program hopes and the kids respond to it.”

Why did Graham take work in Santa Fe?

Graham is not naive. He knows that the Raiders program has been fighting in recent years. However, he knows about the history of victory and the community that supports Raiders. He saw him shine last season when GHS played in SF.

“They have many elements that favor victory. They hosted us well. There was a great presence in the stands. The facilities are well cared for, “Graham said. “If you were in Alachua County everywhere, you know about Santa Fe’s success.”

Graham said he didn’t have to look for another job with a coach. He just wants to help young men and the best opportunity for this was in Santa Fe.

“I am a spiritual person and I was everything from the director of football operations to a run coach. My love for football has taken various forms and at the moment this is the call for me. “

Graham and the new look of appearance will start in mid -August.
