Kothrade, Gerald Gilbert It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Gilbert Kothrade, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, on October 18, 2024, at the age of 82. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born January 7, 1942 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Gilbert and Geneva Cotrade, Gerald was known for his adventurous spirit and gift for storytelling. His tales, filled with humor and wisdom, captured the hearts of many. Fiercely independent and deeply loving, Gerald embraced life’s challenges and joys. He spent his childhood in North Minneapolis, on the family farm in Corcoran and the lodge on Mille Lacs Lake. His early experiences shaped his love of adventure and nature. Gerald’s work ethic started young, his first job at 12 was delivering newspapers. Later he became an experienced tinsmith. Two years after starting his position with Northern States Power Company (NSP), he volunteered to join the Navy (1966) where he spent 4 1/2 years. He returned from the Army and resumed work for NSP to complete a total of 36 and a half years, retiring as a “street lighter” (electrician). In his later years, he enjoyed hunting, making projects, traveling the country and spending time with family and friends. He became more open and even more loving as the years went by. We all shared many memories, jokes and even pranks. He had a profound impact on his family and the wisdom he shared will not be lost. Gerald is survived by his wife Lorraine, children Carrie (Joseph) [first marriage]Mandy (Dustin) and Michael (Patricia) [second marriage]seven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the countless stories he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the sense of adventure he imparted. A celebration of Gerald’s life will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Princeton, MN on Friday, November 1st. 2024, visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a church service at 11 a.m., with military honors afterward and a luncheon to follow. Gerald’s funeral will take place the following day, Saturday 2nd November. 2024, at 1:00 PM at Crystal Lake Cemetery in North Minneapolis. Crystal Lake Chapel 612-521-3677
