Rod Gilbert hails Cornish welcome after theater goes above and beyond – Falmouth Packet

The Welshman is known for his stand-up comedy, as well as being a regular on shows such as QI, Would I Lie To You?, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Taskmaster.

He is currently touring the UK with his latest one-man show, Rhod Gilbert & the Giant Grapefruit, which chronicles some of the more light-hearted and poignant moments of his recovery from head and neck cancer.

He describes it as “a comedy show about navigating the dark moments and turning life’s giant grapefruits into something approaching lemonade.”

The 55-year-old was in Truro on Friday for a one-night stand for Cornwall.

However, he was both surprised and touched by the welcome he received – he shared it in a Facebook video titled “What a welcome!”.

Recalling his initial visit in 2023, Rod told his fans: “Last year when I was here at the Hall for Cornwall in Truro I was feeling a bit tired before the show and the staff here very kindly stepped up – above all the call of duty – and bought a little air bed and pillow to take a little nap before the show.

“A year later I came back and they went one step further.”

He then pans the camera around to show a rollaway bed set up in his dressing room, complete with sheets, duvets and pillows.

Rod concludes: “THIS is a Cornish welcome. Thank you.”

While it’s unknown if Rod took advantage of this year’s napping amenities, at least it was put to good use by someone — Rod’s dog, who can be seen in the video happily napping on the blanket.
