BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPRUD) — A Baton Rouge native is currently competing on season 26 of “The Voice.”
Goosey Len Gage Jr, aka Goosey Len, represents the capital on the popular singing competition.
“I grew up in the North Baton Rouge area and the Glen Oaks area,” Gage said. “I’ve been coming up in Baton Rouge my whole life.”
Gage enjoys singing gospel music and R&B. During the blind audition, he performed Boyz II Men’s song “I’ll Make Love to You.”
Gage shared his feelings while performing at the audition. A performance that resulted in two chair turns from Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire. He secured a spot on Gwen Stefani’s team.

“After I got to the bridge, I’m thinking in my head, man, nobody’s turned around yet. So I try not to deviate too much to get embarrassed. But after I got to the top of my song, I saw Gwen turn around and I was like, oh yeah. And I can start just pushing the pedal all the way,” Gage said.
Regarding her team selection, Gage said she thinks Stephanie is the right choice.
“I felt like she was the artist on a panel that could probably speak more to my genre and me as an artist,” Gage said.
Regarding his experience, he said that Stephanie taught him a lot.
“She’s really a coach who’s going to be tough on you in a love sense, in a love sense, to make you the best performer, vocalist and artist that you need to be on stage,” Gage said.

Gage has been singing for decades. He does music concerts along with singing gospel music at the Healing Place Church off Highland Road, a place where he can demonstrate his love for music.
“There’s no better place I’d rather be than being on stage, being in my pocket and really opening up and exemplifying that gift,” Gage said.
What exactly made him try out for The Voice? A whisper of God’s spirit to pick up his iPad and look up the audition dates for “The Voice,” which happened not just once, but twice.
“I heard the spirit of God speaking in me again so clearly. Say, grab your iPad, see when “The Voice” is auditioning. So I took my iPad and when I looked online I was excited because I saw they were doing online virtual auditions. In the next week or two. And in my head I’m like, oh, I can do it,” Gage said.
Now he says of the R&B lovers who loved his performance, he hopes to bring the genre back.
“I’m trying to repeat in history that part that people can bring back real music, you know, real R&B, real soul music,” Gage said.
For supporters, he sends a message along with thanks for the attention he’s getting.

“I’m really blessed for the opportunity of ‘The Voice,’ because it just blew up and opened up everything I’ve been doing for the last 20 years,” Gage said.
Gage also sends some advice to those looking for a career in music.
“Don’t be discouraged by what you are doing. Keep doing what you’re doing. Someday that breakthrough will come. Someday that breach will open like a floodgate,” Gage said.
