Pirates Prospect Watch: Sammy Ciani doubles on three-hit day – Pirates Prospects

Sami Siani had three hits in the Arizona Fall League on Friday.

The day started with a double in the second inning. The 105.3 MPH shot was Siani’s third double of the AFL season. The play almost resulted in a run, but the runner was initially thrown out at the plate. Ciani was later stranded at third base.

Ciani singled in the fourth inning and ended up scoring the third run of the game to give Scottsdale a 3-2 lead at the time. He walks and scores on a homer in the fifth inning.

With Scottsdale down 10-9 and two outs in the ninth inning, Ciani had his third hit of the day. Single passengers in first and second place. A strikeout on the next batter ended the game.

Siani now has a .410 average and 1.016 OPS in 42 AFL appearances.

  • SS Termar Johnson: 1-for-5, RBI
  • RHP Valentin Linares: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • RHP Eddie Ian: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K

Termar Johnson had one hit, earning an RBI single in the fourth inning. Valentin Linares pitched two scoreless innings, taking the second and third innings of work. He struck out two and walked one. Eddie Ian entered the fifth with two runners on base and four runs already scored. Yen allowed two runs to score to tie the game. He returned to pitch the sixth inning, allowing a go-ahead run.

STATCAST HEROES

Siani Hits: In addition to the 105.3 MPH double that traveled 398 feet, Siani also had singles of 98.4 and 93.0 MPH.

Termar single: The single by Termarr Johnson was hit at 100.2 MPH.

Linarez Whiffs: Valentin Linarez worked a two-pitch mix using a four-seam fastball and slider. The four-seamer had five whiffs in 17 swings, sitting at 91.1 MPH and hitting 94.5 MPH. The slugger had three hits in three swings against seven pitches.

Yean Speed: He didn’t have a good outing, but Eddy Yean had some of the best speed in the game. His fastball reached 963 mph and touched 97.3. The pitch didn’t get any spin and misses and was thrown into the zone 38% of the time, with just a 20% chase rate.
