Dibo Samuel requested trade during his outlet meeting with 49ers – Sports Illustrated

If Dibo Samuel didn’t seem to want to play for 49rs this season, that’s because he probably didn’t.

It seemed unhappy. He complained about the lack of touches on Twitter after winning. He struck a teammate on the side line during another victory. And then in his interview with Kyle Shanahan, Samuel officially demanded trade according to Adam Svfter of ESPN.

“It was a difficult conversation with Kyle (Shanahan) because of the relationship we have,” Samuel told Chefter. “But I have to do what is best. I am more than grateful that Niners gave me a lifetime opportunity, but now I think it’s best to find another team. “

Frankly, I don’t understand Samuel’s problem with 49rs. He received the ball in insult 93 times this season. In 2023 he received 97 touches. His load was almost identical.

What changed was its effectiveness. It opened less frequently, broke less supplies than usual, and released a bunch of gaps. And it seems to blame 49ers. He has to look inward.

Each team that gives Samuel more than 90 touches in 2025 is not serious for victory. And if all he wants is more touches, then he is also not serious about victory. He is interested in himself. He might prefer to play for Raiders, where the # 1 goal in a terrible team may be. But I’m not sure they would like to potentially ruin the culture they are trying to build.

In the background, it is too bad that 49ers did not move Samuel the first time he requested trade in 2022. They could receive the 10th choice in the project for him three years ago. Now they will have the good fortune to get the fifth round in return.

49ers brought it to themselves.
