BATON ROUGE — A juvenile was arrested after a carjacking and chase near Scotlandville High School led to a standoff as multiple suspects ran onto the school’s campus Friday, according to the Baton Rouge Police Department.
Around 7:30 a.m., BRPD officers responded to an anonymous tip alleging that the suspects were attempting to carjack several cars in the 12000 block of Doverwood Drive. The police identified one of the stolen cars and began a search.
The stolen car crashed into a fire hydrant before three suspects in school uniforms got out of the car and fled on foot.
The police took one of the juvenile suspects into custody. The juvenile was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, aggravated criminal damage to property, aggravated fleeing an officer, simple possession of marijuana, and altered license plate.
BRPD deployed a K9 unit when the other two suspects were seen jumping the fence at the Scotlandville High School campus while the campus was on lockdown. Two juveniles were taken into custody for questioning, but BRPD said there was insufficient evidence to charge the suspects.
There are two outstanding suspects on the loose.
This is still an ongoing investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding the investigation is urged to contact the BRSM.
