Although he never dreamed of becoming mayor, the Pace community saw the potential for something more that he did not see in himself.

Henderson, Texas – In Henderson, a man’s journey like Trailblazer emphasizes the progress that the city has achieved – and the main stages are still ahead. Henry Pace is the first African -American mayor in the city.

Henderson has a rich history, spanning 182 years, marked by many major stages along the way. And now the city first celebrates another historical.

“And to be the first black mayor, it’s an honor and I want to make the best so I can put my best leg for citizens,” Pace said.

For a pace, being Trailblazer is not new – he has been overcoming barriers for decades.

“As the first, I started at elementary school in 1966. I was the first student in elementary school,” Pace said.

He is also not unknown to leadership. Before he took office, he was serving three terms of the City Council.

“It is an honor for me to get into this role in my life at that moment,” he said.

Although he never dreamed of becoming mayor, the Pace community saw the potential for something more that he did not see in himself.

“I taught and trained in high school and returned, and D -McManus, I told her about it, she said,” Oh, you’ll do well. You will run for three terms. In your first fourth term, you will be the mayor. And how she knew this, I don’t know, “Pace said.

Now, as mayor, he is focused on listening to his community and has a lasting effect.

“I’m glad to talk to anyone who treats their questions to improve the lives of citizens better here in Henderson,” Pace said.
