A new twist in the KNH CEO account for a patient killed in Ward – Keniyans.Co.ke

Nearly a week after the patient was killed in a ward at the Kenya National Hospital in Nairobi, the hospital’s management in his latest statement of the incident expressed concerns about possible take -off work (probably other patients or staff).

Speaking during a briefing in the media on Sunday, the executive director of the Kenya National Hospital (KNH) William Sigilali said there was no evidence that suggest that the outsider had entered the hospital to commit the crime.

Sigilali announced that they had since passed the case to the Directorate for Criminal Investigation (DCI), admitting that the incident had indeed happened in their wards.

” Let me say that at this point we have no evidence that someone has entered and committed the crime mentioned. We know that the patient was actually killed in the ward, “Sigilali said.

” We have handed the DCI question. This person is all unlikely that he has not entered as described in the early manner, but we trust DCI to unravel the mystery, ” added Head.

Here is the account of the blow out of the Executive Director;

G -n Kinyua is directed at KNH by St. Maria Hospital, the Langa on December 11, 2024.

It was admitted to Ward 7B, which specializes in the management of patients with disorders of the nervous system, otherwise known as neurological conditions. We want to clarify that this ward is not defined as a state of mental health, as reported in some neighborhoods.

On administration, it was noted that G -n Kinyua has pressure ulcers as a result of prolonged immobility.
After a comprehensive assessment by our specialists, he was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle weakness. His condition was particularly severe, affecting all his limbs. Therefore, he required general care for nurses, including the feeding of pipes.

Despite the severity of his condition, his status remained stable under our care.

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, the condition of G -n Kinyua was spotted as stable and the day continued as normal. The night shift team took over, without noting unnecessary concerns.

The nursing staff attended him at 9:00 pm, midnight and 3:00 and no anomalies were reported during these routine inspections.

However, on Friday early in the morning around 6am, during the circles of the nurses ward, Mr Kinyua was found with a face covered with blood. After revealing it, the nurse discovered that he was stationary, with a sliced neck wound.

The sister immediately warned her colleagues, security staff, doctor and hospital management.

The area was immediately fenced as a crime scene and the Criminal Investigation Directorate was notified. The DCI responded immediately and took the full accusation of the investigation.

The next relative was immediately connected and asked to come to the hospital.

Our team of psychologists and advisers were mobilized to provide support to the family and to interrupt the sad news.

Recognizing the deep grief and trauma experienced by the family, we created a 24-hour line of help to offer constant psychological support. A second session was held yesterday for consultation with a larger group of family members.

KNH cooperates entirely with the law enforcement agencies and is committed to not affecting the current investigation. After the death examination of the body of the deceased will be carried out as directed by DCI.

KNH has a complex security system, including CCTV cameras in common areas. In addition, we have employees of the National Police Service located in the hospital and we are in close proximity to a police post.

In the light of this incident, we have strengthened and strengthened security measures throughout the hospital to ensure the safety of more than 1800 patients, staff and all visitors.

The KNH management is deeply saddened by this tragic event and remains engaged in transparency and accountability throughout the investigation process.

We assure the public that we are taking all the necessary steps to prevent such incidents in the future. We urge the public to allow the DCI to conduct its investigations without intervention and to refrain from speculations that can cause more suffering to the family.

Again, we expand our heartfelt sympathy for the family of the late G -n Gilbert Kinua mutons. We stand with them during this painful time and will continue to provide all the necessary support.
