Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s Eta Nu Omega Chapter Awards Scholarships to Inland Empire Students – San Bernardino County Sun

Eta Nu Omega’s Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority chapter of San Bernardino and Riverside counties presented scholarships to graduating high school seniors at its annual Graduate Recognition Scholarship Brunch held in June at Sierra Lakes Golf Club in Fontana.

At the event, the branch also presented a Community Service Award to Riverside County Superior Court Judge Joshlyn Pulliam and a Community Service Award for Education Leadership to UC Riverside’s Jamal Myrick.

Dayma Calhoun, Chief Deputy District Attorney for Riverside County, gave the keynote address, encouraging scholarship recipients to work hard, dream big and not be afraid of failure, according to a news release.

Expansion

Eta Nu Omega Chapter and the Inland Ivy Foundation awarded $34,000 in scholarships to students from San Bernardino County and Riverside County. In addition to these scholarships, there were specialized scholarships awarded, including six in memory of loved ones of Eta Nu Omega Chapter members. Memorial scholarships honored Lisa Blacksher, Gracie Mae Poole, Harriet Moore, Keturah McEwen, Hazel Hawkins-Russell and Irma L. Sutton, according to the news release.

Honey Do Scholarships, named after the spouses of Eta Nu Omega Chapter women, and four HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) scholarships were also awarded.

Scholarship recipients attending the brunch included Amaya McCullough, Grace Rivero, Zoria Brooks, Austin Dixon and Kenneth Jones, all of John W. North High School, Riverside; Meah Van Dunk, Innovation Academy, Corona; Holly Pulley, Riverside Polytechnic; Leah Allen, Martin Luther King High School, Riverside; Jayla Coulter, Perris High School; and Cameron Greene, Orange Vista High School, Perris.

Other scholarship recipients at the event were Chaise Jordon, Beaumont High School; Aislinn Carter, San Jacinto High School; Kiera Black, Desert Hot Springs High School; Christina Voner and Jordyn Ware, both of Cajon High School, San Bernardino; Dorian Sinclair-Emmamuel, Excelsior High School, San Bernardino; Jalanie McMillion, Etiwanda High School, Rancho Cucamonga; Aaiyara Miller, Granite Hills High School, Apple Valley; and Anastasia Wallace, Mojave High School, Hesperia.

Eta Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. was hired in 1961 in Rialto and serves communities in San Bernardino County and Riverside County.
