HBCU Football Classic to include two best D2 programs – HBCU GameDay

The 2025 edition of the Red Tails Classic will include two of the most famous HBCU football programs at the Division II-Winston-Salem State (WSSU) and Tuskegee.

University Tuskegee has announced its football schedule since 2025 this week, and WSSU was named Red Tails Classic on August 31st.

Winston-Salem State comes out of 7-3 season, its best record of 9-3 and claims that Ciaa in 2016. Tuskgi University is coming out of season 5-6, including a loss to Johnson K. Smith last season Red Tails Classic.

It is held annually on the weekend of Labor Day, this HBCU match at the beginning of the II HBCU season honors the heroic pilots of Tuskegee, the first black military aviators in the US history. Their courage and skills in World War II destroyed racial barriers and paved the way for future generations.

The game is a national television, attracting the well -deserved attention to HBCU athletics while training Airmen’s impact fans.

Beyond the field, Red Tails Classic encourages school pride, community commitment and historical awareness. The events surrounding the game emphasize the contribution of Tuskegee Airmen, ensuring that their heritage continues to inspire.

WSSU and Tuskegee met for the first time at Pioneer Bowl in 1999 and 2000 at the Georgia dome, with the CIAA squad took the first game and the SIAC team took the other. The Two Program Met in the 2013 Cleveland Classic, and Most Recently Played Each Other at Tuskegee Back in 2019. Tuskegee among All Ciaa schools behind Morgan State.
