Suspect shot dead in Phoenix police shooting – Arizona’s family

PHOENIX (AZ Family) — A man is dead after a police officer was shot in Phoenix Sunday night.

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. near 37th Avenue and Glendale.

Officers responded to a trespassing call at Dollar Tree. They went inside the store to speak with the suspect and he went into a storage room in the back of the store, Phoenix Police Sergeant Phil Krinsky said.

The police followed him into the warehouse and the man climbed onto a cooler. Officers told him to get down, but he didn’t listen, and Phoenix police say that’s when a fight broke out between the man and the officers.

The fight continued from the storage room to the main store when Phoenix police tackled the man. The man then allegedly took control of one of the tasers, at which point police shot him dead.

Officers attended to the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The area will be cordoned off for the next several hours as detectives continue to piece together the fatal shooting.
